Rapid Cycling
Rapid cycling is defined in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual as, “when a person experiences four or more mood swings or episodes in a twelve-month period. These episodes can consist of mania, hypomania, depression or even a mixed state.” In other words, a lot of Up’s and Downs.
Now in my last post, I mentioned some medications. Some are anti-psychotic and anti-manic mood stabilizers for mental disorders like Depakote, Lithium, Zyprexa, Risperdal, Seroquel, Geodon, and Abilify. I thought I would find a link that would give you the best information about these and many other meds. After checking out a ton of places, I found the perfect link at: The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
They identify each class and give you a great chart at the bottom that every consumer and caregiver would do well to print out for reference.
Now back to me and the cartoon. As it stands, this is part of my diagnosis, Bipolar Disorder, some where between rapid cycling and mixed state.

Check in tomorrow as we tackle OCD.
