OCD
What is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?
Saying it’s just an anxiety disorder is a disservice and under minds the true nature of the illness. With it comes characterized behavior such as “recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions). ” The repetitive behaviors can include hand washing over and over again, counting or listing, checking locks, door, ovens, and so on. Yet this is just the “rituals” and tip of the ice-berg of OCD. For more information about the plagues of this disorder, I recommend a couple sites: The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation.
I, too, deal with some of the obsessive behavior and even thought today’s cartoon is more of a stereotypical over view of the disorder. I can’t help to laugh every time I read it. Here are a few comments I already got about it:
“Your comics are great! The OCD to-do list had me in stitches. You do great work.”
- Morgan a Consumer, North Carolina
” I have a mental illness and I did not find that offensive at all, really funny. I loved the OCD cartoon (and, yes I suffer from OCD.) I think it’s great to be able to humble yourself and laugh at yourself. I, too, take life way too seriously and I think this guy’s site is great.”- Social Worker, Illinois
** So, what do you think about it?
