Rorschach Test: Mental Health Humor Cartoons by: Chato B Stewart
Summary: Rorschach test, what is it all about? What is my view along with today’s cartoon.
Rorschach test (pronounced “ror-shock”)
Whether you subscribe to its validity or not, in fact, Hermann Rorschach’s (1884-1922) Inkblot test has been in use almost since it’s inception. Yet what is it really? Well, no doubt, you have seen it in some old movies once or twice. Or you have had it administered while seeking treatment. This is the way I got to see this “Confidential and Secret!” test. What was the outcome… they will not tell you. In fact, if you ask, the psychologist or psychiatrist will record it. Every thing you do or say is said to be telling them of your inner most thoughts. Yet why is the personality test subject to so much controversy?
First, my statement that it’s a “personality test” in of itself gets many believers of the test, hot under the collar. See Rorschach, the test is spontaneous or unrehearsed “responses” reveal deep secrets or significant information about the taker’s personality or “innermost thoughts”. Yet even when well studied on the giving of the test, those that administer it must follow a very rigid way with a particular “format” or protocol in order to minimize variances in the results. Yet, it is their interpretations of your responses that are most often questioned. Since the same test given to the same person can yield different results.
Nowadays there are more advanced tests that can give the psychologist or psychiatrist a clearer view of your needs and mental state. A good therapist does not rely on written tests alone. Yet, if you have the privilege of taking the century old test or if you have to suffer through it in the near future then today’s cartoon is for you.
P.S. Please note to any one who will write to me how wrong I am about my thinking of this test…Just remember, I did not say anything about each of the 10 images and give away the many types of deep meaning they have or reveal any of the proper answers for it. Since even though, I disagree with it, I still feel that if anything can help open up a person to talk about his or her issues then it is not a totally bad thing… I just disagree with psychoanalyzing every little thing some one does… like what you’re doing right now to me no doubt. Cause sometimes an inkblot is just an inkblot, then sometimes and inkblot can look like an nude woman walking down the street. So stop showing people dirty pictures.
