Mental Health Humor and Cartoons

Bad, bad, bad is the feeling when your medications start to fight each other! I’m sure, we all know, we need to make sure the drugs we take to get well - don’t in fact make us sicker! Yet, many drugs can make you feel worse if there is a “negative drug interaction.” It can be very severe and may even cause death. Now this goes for any one on meds for any reason, yet as consumers, we need to be especially careful since many of us rely on our meds to maintain our sanity and balance. Ask your doctor and most importantly tell your doctor every medication you’re taking, prescription or over- the-counter… i.e Tylenol, Asprin and such.

How do you know if you’re having a negative drug interaction? Well, sometimes you don’t even need to ask - strange body pains or an unexplained rash could be a mild onset. The severity of the reaction can be your scale as to whether to call your doctor or rush to the E.R.!

I have had two major reactions. One that was due to a new med, the other was because of mixing meds and taking too much over-the-counter pain killers. It was a major negative drug interaction. If you tapped or pushed with a little force on my skin, within a hour, it would start to swell. First, like a bug bite then would expand to the the size of a grape fruit. The skin would harden like leather and blister for 48 hours then go away…Ouch! It was one reason, I had to go completely off all my meds… It took over six months before I could even take an Asprin again… So, let this be a lesson to everyone… tell your doc what meds you take and ASK if there could be any negative drug interaction?
