Mental Health Humor: Bearing Borderline Personality Disorder

AddThis Social Bookmark Button Bearing down on Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is not a character flaw and so many would like to pass it off as such. The disorder does not get the same attention as Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder (Manic-Depressive Illness). Does this make it a lesser disorder? No, Borderline Personality Disorder is a serious mental illness! Mood instability can change faster than you can say Rapid Cycling! As with all mood disorders, BPD can effect relationships, self-image, and most of all behavior. Not to be confused with psychosis. Borderline Personality Disorder has its own classification and symptoms.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) says about Borderline Personality Disorder, that the “instability often disrupts family and work life, long-term planning, and the individual’s sense of self-identity…. people with BPD suffer from a disorder of emotion regulation… There is a high rate of self-injury without suicide intent, as well as a significant rate of suicide attempts and completed suicide in severe cases. Patients often need extensive mental health services, and account for 20 percent of psychiatric hospitalizations.”

What do people dealing with this disorder have to say about it? Well, my fellow blogger in Oklahoma suffers from “*gasp* Borderline Personality Disorder” ( BPD in OKC ). On her blog “about me” page she asks a very simple but poignant question, “Am I crazy? Well you can be the judge.” We won’t judge her but the truth is she is living and succeeding in life without letting BPD rule her life. Instead, she is the BOSS! Check out her blog after you see our cartoon and leave us a comment please.

Hello Chato B Stewart

I am a peer advocate of those suffering from Borderine Personality Disorder. BPD is a highly treatable condition, and yet, 10% of those with the disorder successfully commit suicide. I worked very hard to find appropriate treatments…did the work…and am in full remission of symptoms!

Having suffered so greatly, the experience changed my life and I am dedicated to helping others get well. I have just published a book entitled, “Self Help for Managing the Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder.”  You can find it and other articles, on my website:  www.borderlinepersonalitysupport.com

My credentials include testifying before Members of the House of Representatives in Washington, DC.  You can find my extensive bio on my website.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help with your work as well!

With gratitude,

Tami Green
