Mental Health Humor : Signs of Deaf
Signs of Deaf, I have a friend that is deaf and deals with mental illness. It is hard enough when you’re trying to express yourself when you can hear… how do you do it when you can’t?
The Association of Late-Deafened Adults (ALDA)
It is very important that you understand that I AM NOT saying people that are deaf are also mental ill. Do not confuse the two! The Life Print Article below looks at the community as a whole were as ALDA’s aim is to late-deafened adults. Both groups with in themselves have people dealing with mental disorders and depression being one of the prevalent disorders. Finding a social network of people that understand is one key to recovery with any emotional or physical issue. This is what ALDA offers and is why they have helped so many.
The cartoon below I donated to The Association of Late-Deafened Adults (ALDA)
Mission state on their website says:
“The mission of the Association of Late-Deafened Adults (ALDA) is to support the empowerment of late-deafened people.
Late-Deafened Adults are people who have lost the ability to understand speech with or without hearing aids after acquiring spoken language.
ALDA is committed to providing a support network and a sense of belonging by sharing our unique experiences, challenges and coping strategies, helping one another find practical solutions and emotional support, and working together with other organizations and service providers for our common good.”
The cartoon below was published in their annual ALDAcon convention booklet. This year is their 20th Annual International ALDAcon (convention). Again, I hope to submit more cartoons for them to use…LOL If they will have them… Why is this organization close to my heart? True, my friend is one part. The second is I’m losing my hearing a little at a time… It is not aggressive at this point but it is happening. So, I guess you could say, I’m hedging my bets to try and bring some awareness to this subject so when it’s my time to join, there will be more support for the people who are deaf and dealing with mental illness.
