Mental Health Humor : Billy Gates & Mental Health

-*-*-*-*-*-*SITE MAP *-*-*-*-*-*-*-

Billy Gates & Mental Health, what is the connection? We will get to that in a few. First, I want to thank everyone that is coming daily and checking out the site! I added a few new things. Last week, I added the “My Cartoons Index” to better navigate the blog… It seems to be working since my page views on all the cartoons have doubled.

Second, I added my warning again to the left side of the page. I want my readers to know this blog and the cartoons is about trying to be “positive” and use humor to help heal… BUT, the cartoons are not for everyone. And if humor about mental health is offensive to you, I ask you NOT to view the site. Then again if you do check out the site, you may feel how my new friend Kate from realmentalhealth.com felt:

“Hey I saw your site! At first I thought I’d be offended but then I took a chance and laughed so hard at some of the jokes, like the one with the elevators and the rapid cycling…ha ha. And the bipolar bear…XD”

This lead us to our last update. We know we are walking a fine line with humor and mental health. That is why I’m establishing the Mental Health Humor Honorary Advisory Council. This will be made up of professionals and peers who will help advise and assist with some of the issues that might come up. That will be the balance to my unbalanced mind. Who will from time to time answer comments and even questions as their time permits. The Honorary Advisory Council is not responsible for anything I publish and might disagree from time to time on a cartoon or three… And their wisdom will be the balance this site will need.

I am very HAPPY to announce our first member of the Honorary Advisory Council:

Honorary Advisory Council

As the list grows, we will update it along with a dedication page to the council. As the list of advisers grow, we will continue to update the page. Would you like to help and volunteer for the Honorary Advisory Council? Contact me and we will talk. info@mentalhealthhumor.com

Back to Billy Gates and Mental Health. Have you ever felt that dealing with a mood disorder has made you stick out of the crowd? A comment from Sharon a few days ago got me thinking about this. In short, what I took away from her comment was that she was talking about conforming to society that has rejected us. Why should we work hard to be like all the “normals”? It’s true, some stigma/discrimination has separated us to some extent but that should not be the reason we give up! We are victimized by mind disorders but we don’t have to be victims!

I have tried to “fit in”… I have tried to conform but that was before I came to understand the person I am, not the person my disorder makes me. So, I feel like instead of “fitting in”… I’d rather stand out and live my life with dignity and joy with my family! Little Billy Gates did not fit in yet now he is one of the riches people around… And Billy, some day if you ever read this, I would be happy to set up a peer to peer foundation in your name.

How does Billy fitting in, apply to us? Well, we may never be financially rich for being different but we can be rich in other ways! For some of us, just getting up and out of bed is worth more than money. To have the ability to have balance and let go of our emotional luggage, we might pay anything for. So, I hold this out to you, we don’t need to fit in for us to find our balance. What is our goal? To find balance, have hope, and live with dignity!

Oh and Billy, just make the Check out to me… Chato B Stewart, cause even with balance a few nice things are o.k., too.
