Mental Health Humor: David Granirer is the Founder of Stand Up For Mental Health where he teaches stand up comedy to people with mental illness as a way of building self-esteem and fighting public stigma.

We are honored and very much appreciate every member that is serving on the Honorary Advisory Council! But Dave is the proverbial BIG FISH when it comes to using humor to heal! It was his reply to an e-mail, I sent in March 2008, that really made me put the extra effort into the idea. The funny thing was he did not see one of my cartoons because my website was having layout issues… All he saw was my main page. I posted 30 comments both good and bad… this is what he said:

“I went to your site, but I couldn’t get to any of the cartoons or jokes. I saw some of the comments, especially the one from someone who said they had a good sense of humor but was offended - which probably means you’re on the right track! anyhow, let me know when I can see the cartoons and if you want to be one of my comics. Cheers!”

Having him with us and his knowledge and first hand experience is… well, AWESOME!!! Today’s cartoon is a little homage to Dave and a way to say thanks. The only way I know how… Oh and it’s a cheap way to plug my blog site because if he likes the cartoon he will without a doubt post it on all his websites and use it in his newsletters… hint, hint, hint.
