Free Mental Health Humor : Globophobia, Play Name That Phobia!
Did you know what Globophobia is? Well, it’s time to play “Name That Phobia“, where you get to learn about some strange but true fears. This one, I mentioned before and a fellow blogger even did a post dedicated to me and my fear… I was glad I could inspire her to exploit my fear for her blog… 
She really did a great job defining it:
“Globophobia is the fear of balloons, and even though it is classified as an “uncommon phobia,” the fear of balloons is actually a rather common fear……. Do you feel fear or terror when you see, smell, or hear a balloon near you? If so, you have globophobia. Other symptoms of globophobia include rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, nausea, feelings of dread, sweating, and panic attacks, although symptoms may very from one individual to another.” - Anxiety.today.com
Balloon phobias as with most fears are normally caused by experiencing a traumatic event… In my case, it was a big red balloon. I was about 6 and we just got back from the Topsfield Fair in Massachusetts , U.S.A. I won the balloon in a game. It was in November and cold! When I got home, I put the balloon in a safe place on top of the radiator. I woke in in the middle of the night to play with my balloon and when I looked it was huge. The heat expanded it to the max… I went over and just touched it with my finger…. BOOOOOOOM! The stupid thing popped! Ever since then seeing one or having to hold a balloon… creeped me out!
To this day I hate balloons! I have been helped to handle this fear a lot over the years thanks to my wife… She LOVES balloons and well, I love her so I had to face the fear… That is me 18 years ago at our engagement party! I’m 19 and my soon to be wife wanted balloons at the party… Guess who had to blow them up?…. JUST Look at my face… it says it all! To this day I still HATE THEM! Just not soo much now.

What would be the name of a phobia of “finding worms in food” (as in when preparing garden produce, or finding the one that somehow got missed and ended up boiled along with the corn or broccoli on my plate…) I have a dramatic reaction that is interesting to watch, LOL. Or what about this one: overflowing toilets? My cat has an interesting phobia of ceiling fans. Now I’m curious about finding names for all of the above…
