Mental Health Humor: Moving towards Recovery and laughing all the way.
Thank you for stopping by! The past week, I have been thinking a lot about the Recovery Peer Specialist (RPS) movement and wanted to take moment to talk about this blog and the purpose I see for it.
The mental health cartoons are meant to be positive even though we like to toss in a joke about phenylethylamine (phenylalanine), and globophobia every now and again. When we started out, we did not really know what to call the website. Our first name just did not seem to fit right, “bipolar jokes” and then “mental health jokes” seemed right. A friend suggested why not just call the site mental illness jokes. But I thought our site would be more then just jokes and I am so glad I went with mental health humor (www.mentalhealthhumor.com). Our site is not only giving away free mental health cartoons but we also provide education about mental disorders and other issues facing people living with Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia and a host of other disorders.
Yes, it is true, we do have bipolar humor, social work humor, health jokes, social services humor, mental illness humor on our blog. But please, don’t let our mental health cartoons or bipolar cartoons or even a humor video of me jumping around having fun, water down the important message and the seriousness of mental health. This goes for any typos you might see now and again, for example “menatl health”. No our cartoons, don’t just focus on jokes, mental health or depression humor or mental illness cartoons. We look for ways to present the free cartoons for mental health that show respect and educate or just make you laugh out loud!

You can see our health cartoons and free wellness cartoons are more than just mental health words. Just take a look at all the nice comments and request for more-toons. Soon, with the help from a person that just wrote a book the subject, we will work together to come up with some good and respectful jokes/cartoons on borderline personality disorder.
Yes, we are starting to move and we still need your help. Here is want you can do right now to help.
- If you have a website or blog, link to our main page or blogroll us.
- If you blog, use our cartoons on your site and link back to us.
- Send our link or one of our cartoon via e-mail to all your friends (just don’t spam them)
- Print out a few cartoons you like and show them to you doctor or staff. Some might even let you post them in the office.
- Print out a few cartoons for your local drop-in centers.
- Talk about the cartoons with your friends… we do so custom cartoons and I might you part of one.
The goal is to get the word out, it is o.k. to laugh! One of the main points I like to bring out about the Recovery Peer Specialist ( RPS) program I just attended is that “We are more the our diagnosis”. There is real healing power in humor. It breaks down walls and parts seas. Let use laughter not only to hide our feelings but instead to validate our joy and as we all work on our recovery.
