Mental Health Humor: Masks, who we are under what we show others?

Are you the same with every one or do you hide who you are sometimes?  Come on, don’t tell me you don’t put on a mask every now and again.  You just came home from a hard, exasperating day at work or running errands, your feet hurt and all you want to do is take a bath and go to sleep… DING, DING, DONG, your door bell rings and there are a few friends you have not seen in years…  Well, do you just sit down with a face of doom and gloom or do you put that happy face on and fake it till you feel it?

Well, that same can be true about people living with mental disorders.  The difference  it is not an old friend coming by that makes us put on our mask - rather it is just every day life that does it.

It does not have to be this way, but why do you think so many people put on masks?

I know I do it some time due to my low-self esteem, and as a way to cope in awkward situations.  What about you, have you ever done it?

I couldn’t get in yesterday; had computer problems…DON”T WE ALL???!!!!
In answer for your question, yes I do hide behand a mask..there’s certain times and people that I don’t want witnessing my depression; they’re the ones who don’t have two clues about being bipolar or schizophrenic;;;;;;;even the names of these illnesses incite fear or hate; I try to seem less like an outcast of society and I fight it with everything I have. But yes, I do have masks that I have to use from time to time, and it’ such a relief when ever I have the chance to take them off. (and be myself…..)

Glad to have you back E-mouse, i know for me once i have a “mask” on for to long I start to wonder who is the real me.

It’s so funny thought that we ware mask to hide real people while other wear mask so that can look like real people… O.K, that might not make much sense to every one, but to a few, they will understand, and say to me… hey, that naked no sense.
