Mental Health Humor: Week-end Saturday Review September 20th - 26th -
Happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a Delightful Day…or as good a day as possible according to your circumstances! I hope you are making the best of your day despite whatever things “out of your control” may be going on in your life….Think Peace and always pursue it to the best of your ability…it makes life nicer. Can you believe, another week gone by so fast. Thank You to every one for honoring this blog with awards but especially for checking out and responding/commenting to MentalHealthHumor.com on a regular basis! Sorry, still trying to get that special post out…and I haven’t (as of yet) been able to get to the other Arte Y Pico Awards …but I will….so thanks for your ongoing patience with me and my blog! I found this cool quote from Calvin Coolidge - “No Person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.” So, I hope I can keep giving in some small way and that my cartoons will continue to give you all a laugh! If you haven’t already…Please subscribe and as always - Stay TOONED
Sunday: The Cost of Happiness Cartoon and Blog discussed the Trade off between keeping your Mental/Emotional Well-being through medications that potentially damage your “physical” well-being. Check out the comments for this blog…Thanks for commenting every one!
electricmousie:
I’m beginning to hate taking my medications and have been thinking of either cutting back or completely stopping them. I’m wearing a lot of extra lbs that were put there by all the different meds I tried in the last 17 years. I used to be very small, tiny like a mousie; weight wasn’t an issue for me to worry about. I don’t think it’s right that we should have to sacrifice one part of our body in order to help the other. I hate like hell to go through all the anguish and torture that are now a memory…..but…..I don’t want this extra weight to affect other parts of my body (my BP is already being treated for being so high) It just isn’t FAIR! ClinicallyClueless : ClinicallyClueless.blogspot.com@ Chato. I always love your cartoons, but this one especially hit home and my gut!
Mental Health Humor: Weighing the Side-Effects of Medication. I’m glad I made your day especially for a Monday!@sunnflr. I know the medications and we went through everything. You know that less than 1% experience this side effect, well, I one of those. I know that this is it, my mood is stable and my weight gain is under control, now I’m just waiting for my lab results. Cross my fingers because then it is making a choice. Funny, both mental health and physical health issues can create shorter lives.Sep 22, 4:52 PM —
Tiffany | desertorchid.wordpress.comIt is unfortunate how the side effects of mood stabilizing drugs can be so negative. I am currently taking seroquel also and it does have some weight gaining effects. I’m not sure about high blood pressure, because that has never been a issue for me.
I guess you just have to take it one step at a time. I’m sure there are ways you can work on your weight and blood pressure without the meds getting in the way. Good luck with that though. Keep us posted! Sep 22, 4:25 PM — Mental Health Humor: Weighing the Side-Effects of Medication.
Chato | mentalhealthhumor.today.com@ClinicallyClueless : Thank you so much for your encouraging words and commenting from the heart. As you know blogging is quite a viral and surreal world. Sometimes, the blogger need know that they are connecting with people. Well, for me today was one of those days… Thanks for cheering me up! Sep 22, 1:16 PM — — Mental Health Humor: Weighing the Side-Effects of Medication.
sunnflr healthandhappiness.today.comSeems like the doctor could find another medication to help with your moods and sleep that doesn’t cause weight gain. There are so many medictions these days, there has to be one that would work. Good luck with everything. Sep 22, 1:10 PM — Mental Health Humor: Weighing the Side-Effects of Medication.

I love what you have to say about the side effect. My side effects is what caused us to go through many medication changes in about two years. I gained 50 pounds, went from a size 25 pants to 30 and with an eating disorder it panicked me to know end and then I just kept getting more depressed the more I gained despite changing my diet and exercising. So, we changed medications and in three weeks I lost 10 pounds and feel better emotionally and physically. However, I still have a problem with hyperprolactation which cause weight gain and some other interesting side effects…look it up.Seroquel elevated my triglycerides from 36 to almost 300, so we discontinued that. I think, what I am taking now is as good as it gets.I love the cartoon and your message… Sep 22, 11:32 AM — Mental Health Humor: Weighing the Side-Effects of Medication.

Wednesday: Sometimes We all Where a Mask Cartoon highlighted that sometimes those of us who suffer with a mental illness need to put on a brave mask to face others and cope with our illness.
chatobstewart mentalhealthhumor.today.com
Glad to have you back E-mouse, i know for me once i have a “mask” on for to long I start to wonder who is the real me.It’s so funny thought that we ware mask to hide real people while other wear mask so that can look like real people… O.K, that might not make much sense to every one, but to a few, they will understand, and say to me… hey, that naked no sense.Sep 25, 9:52 PM — Mental Health Humor: Masks, who we are under what we show others?
electricmousie www.mentalhealthhumor.comI couldn’t get in yesterday; had computer problems…DON”T WE ALL???!!!!
In answer for your question, yes I do hide behand a mask..there’s certain times and people that I don’t want witnessing my depression; they’re the ones who don’t have two clues about being bipolar or schizophrenic;;;;;;;even the names of these illnesses incite fear or hate; I try to seem less like an outcast of society and I fight it with everything I have. But yes, I do have masks that I have to use from time to time, and it’ such a relief when ever I have the chance to take them off. (and be myself…..) Friday: The Joys of Volunteering Blog. Do you Volunteer? Both my wife and I do…we believe in it. Lots of benefits for all involved. That’s great Electricmousie that you won “Best Producers” Award…and Thanks for the encouragement “Little Ray of Sunshine.”
electricmousie |
GREAT JOB, CHATO!!!!! Your paintings are wondeful; they are nice and bright and look really good! I don’t paint much except for tole painting so I really appreciate good art when I see it!
I used to volunteer at our local TV station; helped ou tfor four years before I had my initial meltdown. My better half and I used to love singing so I came up withthe idea of putting a show together every week; just half an hour in which we tried to include as many acts as possible (usually two; dancers and singers). It was tough loooking at the administrative side of things but once I got going it was a wondeful wonderful outlet for my mania (and I was way way up there; it was perfect for hosting a show. Surprisingly enough it took off and was extremely popular! **** I loved being immersed with the show; and it lasted 4 years; two years in a row we won the Best Producers award..I still have them on my wall to remind me that YES I CAN tackle a project and do it well!!!
I don’t sing much any more but I’m loooking into volunteering up in the hospital…maybe helping in the gift shop or running the book cart around all the floors! People are calling me their little Ray of Sunshine now cause I’m high and bouncy and they just love it! I still have my times but they’re not nearly as distressing as they were!!
Keep up your painting Chato, you never know where it might take you to!!!
