Sunday: State Penitentiary - Home Sweet Home! Did you know, it is estimated 25% of prison inmates are dealing with major mental disorders and another 16% will develop one in the course of time spent behind bars?

I agree that it is a sad fact. I hope that more can be done about this problem.

So True Bradley!
Here is a fun fact- Florida Mental Health Services are ranked 48th in all the states… But 12th in the highest number of Mentally Ill people behind bars…
Some times I think I would get better care if I did go to jail… Well, then again, maybe not… From the research I’ve done many locations treat inmates with mental illness like dirt and think most of the are faking it…
So I guess It is something I don’t every really want to find out about.

Good post, Chato. People complain about how overcrowded our prisons are and how much it costs to feed and house the prisoners themselves. If we would do something to help those with mental illness and work with those who are arrested for minor drug infractions, then we would see the prison population reduced and see more people becoming active members of society.

Monday: Dr. Bob, Bob - Jailed in your Mind Cartoon! Sad, but mental illnesses left untreated can lead to great suffering. Lacking proper support, education, and/or medications has lead to jail time for some.
Fortunately I didn’t get to spend time injail although I could have. I have done things that aren’t right, too…..it started out with stealing ladies purses when I’d go to the disco clubs; I needed the money so I’d take every cent I could find and leave the rest of the stuff alone. I was fired from one job where I stole money from the cash register (they took the amount from my pay check before effectively booting me out the door!) I could have gotten into a “life” involved in drinking and drugs ut I think someone was watching over me.
A few years ago I strangled one of my cats…all I know is that these voiceswere screaming in my brain and telling me to kill kill KILL! So I did; I actually tried to kill them both but the second one pulled through. I hated myself after realizing what I had done…needless to say I found myself back in the hospital in Isolation. Just like that. I can take an attack overnight and go from well to clear crazy. I’m afraid of my attacks because I don’t know what’s going to become of them.
I’ve had police come and take me up to the hospital bcause I was so crazy that my hubby would call for help; there was no dealing with me. I don’t recall being handcuffed but I do recall sitting in the back. This embarrasses me especially if it happens with witnesses around.
I knew othe bipolars who got into really deep trouble because of the illness. This doesn’t help our cause any; we don’t want o have the public look at us as a bunch of crazy criminals. I know a lot of the things we do are very terrifying and scary; I wish we didn’t have to worry about going off the deep end.Sep 30, 7:58 PM — Mental Health Humor: Dr Bob Bob - Jailed in your Mind

An “LOL” doesn’t do justice to how I laughed when I saw the cartoon you chose to accompany my post! Spot on brother. When I was bipolar, I didn’t have an angel and a devil on my shoulders. I had a devil on one and Saint Rage on the other.
Man. I am so glad I am no longer that guy. It took too much work!
Thanks for sharing me with everyone buddy!

@all - Thanks for your comment… This cartoons was my father 100%… Sadly for the longest time it was and still could be me…
But I’m working on it… It’s funny, my wife says I can find anything to be mad about… If the sun is out, then it’s too hot, if it’s raining then i’m mad because the sun is not out… But that was the old me…
more to come i’m sure…

GUILTY! I have had incidents of manic rage and a lot of things were thrown against the wall; it didn’t matter what I had; anything at hand winds up being hurled against the wall…I’m awfully destructive in
those times…that’s usually a good sign that I’m getting sick again. I get irritated a lot and everything starts to race inside me and I scream and say some terrible things. I’m totally different when I’m the victim of manic rage; unfortunately people who have witnessed this (like in the grocery store; one time i cleared a whole shelf of canned goods…Yiiiiiii!) that’s not doing much towards making bipolar more scary to people. My rages are so unlike me;I keep promising myself that I’ll never explode like that again …and I always do.Oct 2, 1:38 PM — Mental Health Humor: Anger Management - Yelling Over Split Milk

Thankfully, I have no yes answers to those questionsSome of my friends would describe me sometimes as too pathetic, or unexcitable since I do not react too fast, only probably when I see beautiful places and people that would cause my heart to pump so fast and get excited
but in times of trouble, you can count on me
as I do not lose my mind easily.
Oh, one thing I forgot, that tingles my excitement, a dose of HUMOR, hihihi. Laughter, is the best medicine eh?
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me a comment, and also for sharing your concern about my photos not having watermark. I know I should, but sometimes, I am too lazy to add more work

Thanks to all for your words of encouragement that helped me.

Chato, you seem to have so much going for you. You have a talent that many people would be envious of. I’m glad that you are able to channel it into cartoons and that it helps you emotionally.
I think that almost everybody finds something about themselves or their lives that they hate, the thing is that you need not to dwell on it. Don’t think that you are alone in the way you feel as I would say many of us have felt or feel the same way to some degree or other.
Keep up the good work.

E-Mouse, I’m sorry to hear about your friend. It obvious you and your husband care deeply for him. I know how this type of news can trigger anyone and it does require some time to take it all in. Still, don’t let this knock you out of the game of recovery. Your a fighter and a survivor! I’m sure there are ways you can help your family friend that others could never do. You are so right when you say “Non bipolars don’t seem to understand what’s taking place inside our heads”. This can also give us so much more insight with other who are suffering that we may be able to help with.
I know how hard it is for you right now, but do what you can not to give in to the depression… Take back the control… come on, you can do it, besides what will this blog be like with out your comments.

I need to spill my guts from time to time; preferably with a thrapist or doctor. Non bipolars don’t seem to understand what’s taking place inside our heads… I’m feeling very low today; one of my best friends was diagnosed with cancer yesterday (Hubby and I were in the room with him when the doctor broke the news…..his bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired; he’s even worse than “House MD”…This is a terrible time for me; I was too depressed to do much today so I slept on the couch. I don’t care if I pull out of this one or not.

Great post. I’ve been through that stage where I don’t want to kill myself, but would like to just lie down and fade away. Something I can really relate to in my post.
Also, thank you for reminding me of all the things I should be grateful for.

Friday: A Balanced Support Group Cartoon. This blog discussed why you should attend a local support group meeting…Seek, get help, understanding, hope!
Sire wassupblog
Damn good post. Until one thinks about it you can’t really comprehend what a person with a mental illness is going through. This post helps to clarify that and I hope that those reading it may understand what these people are going through. The group sounds like a great idea.Oct 4, 6:27 PM — Mental Health Humor: Why Should You Attend Local Support Group Meetings?
