Title:
“Sometimes Your Mental Health Is The Last Thing You Worry About”
The homeless are vulnerable! Almost two thirds of the people living with mental disorders are trying to survive on the streets… There are many places working hard to help as much as they can. But with numbers reaching 300,000 or more homeless any resources available are taxed to the brink of breakdown. Below is a fact sheet about homelessness… With the economy the way it is and foreclosures sky-rocketing, we are looking at a crisis of biblical proportions.
When having a roof over your head for your family is your goal, mental health has to take the back seat. The problem is you can only put it off so long before your disorder takes over… Then you could loose every thing.

That’s so true. Our mental and physical health should be the first things to take care of.
In my area of the city the homeless are very common; the shelter is located to the Mental Health center. Any time I have to go to MH I see many of these people sitting up against buildings or pacing, trying to keep warm…one man lives along a stretch of fence and defies anyone to try to cross that place. The shelter is good for overnight (but there are only so many beds) and the rest have to try their best to survive in below zero temperatures…I don’t think ou government cares enough to put some of their wasted money into helping the homeless all the way (housing, drug and alcohol programs, ect) Any of us could wind up in the same situation.
@emouse: I think many might feel that it’s not their falut or why should they care about the homeless if they are just going to end back on the street… Or that being homeless is a matter of their own choice.
Sometimes we just laugh it off but you are right. For those who are less fortunate, how can they worry about their mental health if they don’t even recognize they have it? If one is hungry, the first concern is food and not anything else, such as the mental health or any other thing.
