Mental Health Humor:

 Question:

Dr. Bob, I am going out of my mind!
I’m stuck in the house day and night!
It’s too cold to go out. I have no money
to hit the malls.  My girl friends all are
married with kids. I have no one to
spend this alone time with… Even my
cat ran away!  My boyfriend left cause
I hate pizza. What’s wrong with me?
Signed: Lonely Me

Dr. Bob Bob:

Dearest Lonely Me… Do You Even Read My Column??  This isn’t Lonely
Hearts or Dear Abby… I’m not here to hear how bad your love life is!
I’m here to help people with real psychological issues.  But, since I’m
here to help, I’ll give you a bit of advice. MEN LIKE PIZZA! No, not like
WE LOVE PIZZA! It is true, the way to a man’s heart is with good pizza…
People who hate it are just nuts… Oh, I see why you’re writing now.

Mental Health Humor Weekly Review: Accidental Overdose - Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy - Electroconvulsive therapy, E.C.T. - SEXY Worm - Venus Angell - Bad Decision Making

Mental Health Humor cartoons jokes chato b stewart

Mental Health Humor: Weekly Review

This week we blogged on a lot of touchy subjects.  Some we hit head on and other we just used as the underlying subject matter.  With the December 7th cartoon we kind of hit it head on talking about Accidental Overdosing.  It happens more often then people think… Yet it takes celebrity some time to bring it to our attention. Such as Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith and her son died from an accidental drug overdose… But one does not need to abuse them meds for this to happen.  If we are adjusting our own meds thinking we know what we are doing then we could be putting our lives and health in danger.

We posted on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Electroconvulsive therapy, E.C.T. and some of the benefits and dangers.  Then took it down a notch with the post of a worm being what I guess I envision a SEXY Worm doing… I’ll let you read into that any way you want.

I was so happy the way my custom cartoon came out for Venus Angell  with the “Bad Decision Making disorder”.  I still have not heard from her so that could be just that she has not seen it yet or that well… SHE HATES IT and is tracking me down for revenge…

So that was my week, how was your week?  I think I’m to going keep doing the Custom Cartoons and posting it once a week.  The rule is you send me a photo and I draw it any way i like.  I will post it on my site and you must post it on your site linked back to me.  So if you want me to try and draw you send your pic to:

I sure hope this gets through!! I loved your cartoon depicting someone who has had the experience of ECT….to be perfectly honest, I didn’t like the treatments at all; in fact it seemed the more I got the more fearful I became…BUT after all that and a few adjustments to my meds I’ve been fine! They do work eve though the idea seems barbaric….!

Looks like my comments didn’t make it through, so I’ll try again…I loved your cartoon depicting someone who has experienced ECT; really cute…I had a few series of them and even though I was terrified of them and felt like crap afterwards I still have to say they do work! I’ve been well for nearly a year…that’s the part that matters most…staying well (and not having to go back for anymore….they wanted me to have maintenance ECT once a month but I turned them down…no thank you!!!!! ;( I’d hate to have to look forward to that every month!!!!!

Hey E-mouse Glad to have you back… The was the cartoon I wanted you to see first before I posted it… It kind of uses the idea you gave me about a person started a dead car battery by touching… But drawing that out just did not translate… Just so you know, I seem to be getting all you comments, but if you post one and it does not show up right away just give it a sec or two… then if you don’t see it e-mail me at: info(at)mentalhealthhumor(dot)com

Mental Health Humor: Ask Dr. Bob Bob Reality T.V.

Question:

Dr. Bob Bob, I CAN’T believe it, my
life is so cool! See, I have my own
Reality T.V. Show. It’s on 24 hours a
day but I’m not allowed to see it and
the cameras are hidden so well I can’t
see them. There is no host or grand
prize and I can’t be voted out!  I want
you to be a guest next Monday,
Signed: Reality Gone

Dr Bob Bob’s Answer:

Dear Reality Gone, I hate to break it to you but you are not in a show.
You’re suffering from delusions of grandeur with Truman syndrome.
You need help before your show winds up getting canceled or you
might get stuck in re-runs… But, just in case I’m wrong, Monday will be
fine. Let’s just meet at the cafe in La La Land say around noon..

AP

To some psychiatric patients, life seems like TV

One man showed up at a federal building, asking for release from the reality show he was sure was being made of his life.

Another was convinced his every move was secretly being filmed for a TV contest. A third believed everything — the news, his psychiatrists, the drugs they prescribed — was part of a phony, stage-set world with him as the involuntary star, like the 1998 movie “The Truman Show.”

Researchers have begun documenting what they dub the “Truman syndrome,” a delusion afflicting people who are convinced that their lives are secretly playing out on a reality TV show. Scientists say the disorder underscores the influence pop culture can have on mental conditions.

“The question is really: Is this just a new twist on an old paranoid or grandiose delusion … or is there sort of a perfect storm of the culture we’re in, in which fame holds such high value?” said Dr. Joel Gold, a psychiatrist affiliated with New York’s Bellevue Hospital.

Within a two-year period, Gold said he encountered five patients with delusions related to reality TV. Several of them specifically mentioned “The Truman Show.”

Mental Health Humor:Weekly Review

This week we had only a few comments, and it’s due to issues on Today.com end and not your lack of trying.  I just want to thank every one who kept trying.  Here is my e-mail, info (at) mentalhealthhumor.com feel free to send my your comments and I’ll post them… And feel free to write just to say hello too…  :)

  1. Ken Jensen Says:
November 12th, 2008 at 2:51 am Why, yes it can be beaten! I went from a guy who begged the V.A. to commit him twice, been dead twice (heart restarted numerous times), survived two comas (one for four hours and the other for two weeks), was a dissociative recluse for two years who could only feel fear, anger, and despair, to a guy who does what I do now. Lead others out of the bipolar nightmare with a system that does not use medication.I didn’t develop my system out of defiance. I was quite the willing pill-popper for six years and I was usually begging for more. Unfortunately, none of it ever dampened my symptoms for long and I was lucky if they got dampened at all.I developed my system out of a need to survive. I was going to die in a lockdown ward or jail. Definitely. No way around it had I continued doing it the pharmaceutical way. Which my last pdoc said was of no use, incidentally. I was 100% meds-resistant.

I just wrapped up my new workbook outlining in great detail how others may do the same (I am giving that away for now), and am almost finished redesigning my homepage. I was on TV a couple weeks back doing an interview on what I know and teach. I will be on radio in a week and giving a college seminar a few weeks after that.

Four years ago, all I wanted to do was hold still, smoke my Marlboros, and wish to God the pain would end. I periodically found time to get drunk to stop my racing thoughts, and get arrested and such when I’d go full psychotic. I’ve worn an awful lot of cuffs.

All past tense. I am the biggest success story my probation office has ever seen, and their only published author. When I first started going to them, they later admitted to me that they thought I was going to launch over the desk at any moment and kill whoever was working with me. Their words. I left my last appointment to cheers!

Yeah. Bipolar can be beat. It takes time, a lot of work, and perseverance, but it can be done if you want it bad enough. I stay ever vigilant of any signals my mind or body might send me but it’s just not an active part of my day anymore. Been like that for almost three years now.

It can be beat. Thousands of others have done so, using just ONE of the things I do. They got better and rebuilt their lives.

    Without meds.

I don’t believe this thing can be cured but like Chato says, it can be taught a lesson on who’s in charge.

    Have hope kids!

    Ken “The Bipolar Eradicator” Jensen

  2. Bradley Says:
November 12th, 2008 at 2:11 pm I love the cartoon. I agree that it’s going to take more than drugs to beat bipolar disorder. Unfortunately too many pop their pills and wait for miracles to happen. I admit that sometimes is me. I’m finally learning that in addition to my meds that I have to schedule activities and tasks, otherwise I’m too likely to sit at home and wallow in self pity.
